Fuwai Cardiovascular Hospital of Yunnan Province (hereinafter referred to as the Hospital) is a Grade III Class A public specialized cardiovascular hospital jointly established in 2013 under the leadership of the National Health Commission through collaboration between the Yunnan Provincial People's Government and Fuwai Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. It is a Category II public welfare institution directly affiliated with the Yunnan Provincial Health Commission, a named hospital of the Chinese Red Cross Society, an affiliated cardiovascular hospital of Kunming Medical University, and one of the first national regional medical center construction units.
Fuwai Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (hereinafter referred to as CAAM Fuwai Hospital) is a national Grade III Class A specialized cardiovascular disease hospital, and also hosts the National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases, the State Key Laboratory of Cardiovascular Diseases, and the National Clinical Research Center for Cardiovascular Diseases. Renowned both domestically and internationally for the diagnosis and treatment of various complex, difficult, and severe cardiovascular diseases, it has become the world's largest cardiovascular disease diagnosis and treatment center, as well as a national-level medical research and education hub integrating medical care, scientific research, prevention, and talent cultivation.

The National Cardiovascular Regional Medical Center Upgrade Project is located on the north side of the hospital, covering an area of 60 mu (approximately 4 hectares) with a total construction area of 129,700 square meters and adding 280 new beds. Building upon the initial phase's capacity to meet clinical diagnostic and treatment needs, the upgrade project primarily involves the establishment of a Healthy Lifestyle Medical Research Center, a Structural Heart Disease Center, a Scientific Research and Laboratory Building, and a Teaching and Training Building. These initiatives aim to enhance the hospital's comprehensive capabilities in medical care, education, research, and prevention, while leveraging the radiating and driving influence of the National Regional Medical Center.

With the technical support of Fuwai Hospital affiliated to the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, the hospital possesses domestically leading specialized diagnostic and therapeutic technologies for cardiovascular diseases. The hospital's professional setup is scientifically rationalized, featuring comprehensive departments that encompass approximately 38 cardiovascular and related clinical and technical units for both adults and children.
The medical team is led by Hu Shengshou, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Director of the National Center for Cardiovascular Diseases, and President of Fuwai Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, who serves as the hospital's chief director. Over 60 cardiovascular disease specialists from Fuwai Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and several experienced head nurses are stationed long-term at the hospital to provide medical services. Through the strong collaboration between experts from Beijing and Kunming, Yunnan Fuwai Hospital strictly benchmarks against Fuwai Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, achieving parity in medical technical proficiency, service quality, and management efficiency.
The hospital integrates advanced imaging, network, and information technologies to establish a visual surgical platform, ensuring precision treatment. Modern technology provides robust support for remote consultations, international exchanges, and talent development. The hospital adopts the information system of Fuwai Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, with all medical records shared with Fuwai Hospital to facilitate physician consultations. It actively promotes electronic registration and self-service report retrieval systems to enhance internal management efficiency and improve patient accessibility. These measures lay a solid foundation for building a comprehensive digital hospital.
The hospital is equipped with world-class medical research facilities, including a 3.0T artificial intelligence magnetic resonance system, dual-source CT, PET/CT, various models of angiography machines, Spectral Tomography (SPECT), multiple models of Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP), Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), and Doppler ultrasound diagnostic systems. Among these are the IGS intelligent mobile interventional robot, which can perform one-stop hybrid surgeries simultaneously.
The Public Welfare-Oriented Hospital adheres to the principle of prioritizing public welfare and actively implements the Ten Major People-Oriented Initiatives of the Yunnan Provincial People's Government. By 2025, it had conducted cumulative screenings in 1,652 townships and 20,733 schools, covering 8.06 million children, with 18,697 cases of pediatric patients confirmed through ultrasound follow-up examinations. Additionally, the hospital has collaborated with charitable organizations to provide free treatment for 8,413 children with congenital heart disease in difficult circumstances and 555 adult patients in similar situations.
Under the leadership of the Yunnan Provincial Health Commission and relevant departments, active efforts have been made to carry out foreign aid projects and integrate into the national "Belt and Road" initiative. The hospital has proactively established a medical diplomacy platform, conducting "Love Walk" activities in South Asia, Southeast Asia, Central Asia, and East Africa countries such as Cambodia, Bangladesh, and Tanzania. A total of 148,450 screenings were conducted in collaboration, with 211 pediatric cases treated. Among them, multiple congenital heart disease patients in Cambodia and Laos successfully underwent ultrasound-guided percutaneous interventional surgery using mobile surgical units.
Hospital Honors In May 2018, Chen Zhu, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, awarded the plaque, officially designating Yunnan Fuxi Cardiovascular Hospital as the second hospital in China to be named by the Chinese Red Cross Society. In June 2018, the congenital heart disease screening team of Yunnan Fuxi Cardiovascular Hospital was elected as one of the Top Ten News Figures in Yunnan Province. In July 2018, Yunnan Fuxi Cardiovascular Hospital became the first hospital in Yunnan Province to pass the high-level hospital evaluation for the application of electronic medical record system functions in 2017. In 2018, the hospital ranked first in the province and among the top five in mainland China for interventional therapy of congenital heart disease. In November 2019, the hospital officially passed the evaluation for a tertiary Grade A hospital. In 2019, the total volume of interventional therapy for congenital heart disease ranked first in Southwest China for two consecutive years. In August 2020, it ranked tenth in the national performance assessment of tertiary public hospitals for specialized hospital categories. In November 2020, it was awarded the title of "National Red Cross Model Unit." In 2022, it ranked tenth in other specialized surgical groups in the national performance assessment of tertiary public hospitals. In 2024, the team led by Professor Pan Xiangbin, Vice President of China Academy of Medical Sciences Fuxi Hospital and Executive President of Yunnan Fuxi Cardiovascular Hospital, won the Second Prize of the National Technology Invention Award in 2023. In 2024, Yunnan Fuxi Cardiovascular Hospital received the highest award, the First Prize, in the 12th China Technology Market Association Golden Bridge Award project.
